Write About Math: Addition to 100 With Regrouping
Hey, y'all! One of the best things about being a teacher is watching your students grow. You meet them at the beginning of the year, forgetting how young they are at the beginning of August, and you think, "Oh boy, we have a lot of work to do here." But over time, you see the growth and thinking and the maturing and you remember why you got yourself into this in the first place. Our Write About Math pages have been a huge help in seeing that growth with my first graders this year.
Right now, we're working on adding within 100 with regrouping. It's a much bigger deal than without regrouping and it's taking us a little longer. But with these pages, the kids and I talk through the process, think about a plan of attack, check the reasonableness of our answers, and apply pencil to paper getting our thoughts out about how we solved it.
This set includes 30 addition prompts with 2-digit plus 1-digit and 2-digit plus 2-digit problems, all of which require regrouping. The word problems are written for new readers, so many of your students should be able to read them independently.
If you're looking for ways to get your students to slow down and think about what they are doing during math, check these out. You may also want to start small with addition to 20, subtraction within 20, or addition to 100 without regrouping--all of which can be found in my TPT store. Be sure to follow me there as I'm always adding new things.
I hope this helps your math time gain a little clarity while also strengthening your students' writing. Have a wonderful week and I'll talk to you soon.
Stay cozy,
