Paper or Plastic Opinion Writing
Hey, y'all! This year, we've been working hard on opinion writing. And with our little advocates, this writing prompt led way to a LOT of opinions. This week, students are reading quick passages about the pros and cons of paper, plastic, and reusable bags, choosing a "best option," then writing out their opinions.
First, we read the passages together and highlight the pros and cons we find throughout each page. Then, as a class (I teach 1st, with bigger kids I'd let them do this part on their own), we break down the pros and cons of each type of bag.
After we've gathered our thoughts, students decide on their stance and get busy with their writing. With my first graders, we do a shared writing as an example to get them started, then they write their own opinions. You can check out the whole unit in my TPT store here.
I hope you found some new ideas for your classroom. Be sure to follow me on TPT for all the latest resources, ideas, and freebies.
Stay cozy,
