Squiggle Stories for Creative Writing
Hey, y'all! Do you ever have students that just don't know what to write about? Or maybe they write about the same thing every time? Get your students thinking a little more creatively with squiggle story writing prompts.
So what is a squiggle story? Well it starts with a squiggle or part of a drawing and students have to finish the picture. So the picture above could be a PacMan, a pizza or pie, a lily pad, cheese for a mouse, or anything else the kids can think of. After the kids finish their picture, they write a story to match their illustration.
These kinds of writings help students think creatively, write with more detail, align their words to their pictures, develop design skills, strengthen spatial awareness, and more. When my whole class is using the same image, it helps build community. Students see that other students had similar ideas about what to draw but their stories might take a different turn. They get so excited to find out others think like they do.
This set includes 50 different squiggles on two different types of writing paper--one set has the primary lines with the dashes down the middle and the other has the single solid lines. Plus there are additional writing pages for your more detailed story writers.
You can find these writing prompts in my Teachers Pay Teachers store here. I'm always adding new resources so be sure to follow me on TPT for the latest ideas, resources, and inspiration.
I hope you found some new ideas for your classroom that work for you and your students. Have a wonderful week and I'll talk to you soon.
Stay cozy,
