Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Word of the Day
Hey, y'all! I don't know about you, but there has been a lot of talk around my school and many others this year about students' social skills. In order to be more proactive, when we come back from break we'll be starting our morning meetings off with a "social skill of the day" lesson.
I put together is compilation of words and phrases related to social skills, manners, and social emotional learning. We'll be reading one card a day, then we'll be completing a short mini-lesson.
Each card has a visual and a student friendly explanation of what each word or phrase means. There are also ways and reasons why students can incorporate this skill into their daily lives. Each word also comes with a mini-lesson and questions to guide your group discussions. Again, these are short and sweet lessons with the hopes that they can have a positive impact on our classrooms without overhauling the entire schedule. These can also be conducted virtually if you are going back to school online this year.
These mini-lessons don't require pencil and paper work, but if you want students to be able to keep a record of their learning, there are student recording pages to go along with them. They are open-ended so that they can be used for multiple words and phrases. This makes teaching students the format super easy since they can quickly become familiar with it. And it makes it easy on us as teachers since we don't have to keep up with a million copies for each lesson.
If you want to find out more about this unit, you can find it in my Teachers Pay Teachers store here. I am always adding new resources so be sure to follow my store for the latest teaching ideas and resources.
